  • Officer Ray Persaud | Chairman of the Board

    Ray Persaud, a dedicated corrections officer with 15 years at the NYC Department of Corrections, is known for his strong work ethic and collaboration with peers. As a mentor, he emphasizes patience and tolerance in the demanding role. Ray's experience has earned him complex assignments and recognition from superiors. He served as president of the Desi Society, the first fraternal organization for South Asian Correction Officers, fostering community ties and receiving accolades for his leadership.

    Ray led the "NYCD Pandemic Mission 2020," providing support during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a UPF Ambassador and also received one of the first ever First Responder’s Award given to DOC in 2023. Emigrating from Guyana at nine, Ray carries on his father's legacy by protecting and representing the community. Officer Raishamraj "Ray" Persaud, a familiar face in the West Indian diaspora, embodies his childhood dream of serving the community as a corrections officer in New York City.

    Zulfikar Ally, Guyana's Non-Resident Ambassador to Mexico and Deputy Chief of Mission to the United States, is a dedicated attorney committed to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law. As an officer of the court, he carries the heavy responsibility of ensuring disadvantaged individuals have a fair hearing. Ally emphasizes his support for legal transformation in Guyana and advocates for a local law school to broaden access to legal education.

    His journey to becoming an attorney is attributed to the unwavering belief in education instilled by his father and the supportive upbringing of his late mother and sister. Justice Sewnarine-Beharry welcomed him to the bar, urging commitment to hard work and thorough research for the benefit of clients and the nation. Notable figures, including the Minister of Finance and the US Ambassador to Guyana, witnessed his admission to the bar.
